Veteran NBC News reporter Andrea Mitchell took to Twitter late Wednesday to defend former President George H.W. Bush after he apologized for sexually harassing an actress four years ago.

Actress Heather Lind said the former president touched her from behind and told her a dirty joke.

The apology from Bush was for the dirty joke.

"President Bush would never — under any circumstance — intentionally cause anyone distress, and he most sincerely apologizes if his attempt at humor offended Ms. Lind," Bush's office said.
