Police in Miami Beach, Florida, said a report Wednesday that four people were hit in a shooting at the home of rapper Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was a hoax.

"We can say for sure it was a hoax," spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said after a SWAT team searched Lil Wayne’s waterfront home, WPLG-TV reported.

Someone called the police station’s nonemergency number early Wednesday afternoon saying that four people were shot inside the home, the station reported.

Police called the incident a “swatting,” aimed at tricking officers into responding to a false report.

The SWAT team searched the home following a two-hour investigation from outside.

The police department posted updates on Twitter.

The entertainer’s record label also tweeted about the incident.

Police spoke with staff members and searched the eight-bedroom, 10-bath home with the assistance of K-9 dogs, The Associated Press reported.

The hoax follows a separate incident on Feb. 28 when police responded to a call that a suspicious looking man was lurking in the rapper’s neighborhood, TMZ reported. No one was arrested.

Twitter users commented about the hoax.
