But way back in 1996, it was President Clinton’s FEMA administrator, James Lee Witt, who put it best when he said, “Disasters are very political events.”
Unlike Emanuel, Witt — who was testifying before Congress on corruption in government disaster management — was lamenting the fact that crises are politicized, not celebrating it.
