Former Vice President Joe Biden admitted this week that it's OK for American voters to question whether a presidential candidate is too old to run.

"I think age is a totally legitimate thing to raise," Biden said during an appearance at an event in Michigan Tuesday, according to CNN. "I think it's totally appropriate for people to look at me and say if I were to run for office again, 'Well God darn you're old.' Well, chronologically I am old.

"Every voter is entitled to know exactly what kind of shape you're in. You owe it to them. It's a legitimate question and so I think age is relevant."

Biden left the office of vice president in 2017 after serving eight years with former President Barack Obama. He will turn 76 in November.

Biden's name was tossed around as a potential Democratic presidential candidate for the 2016 election, but he ultimately chose not to run. He has yet to definitively rule out running in 2020, although he's hinted at not joining the fray — despite early numbers that show he is the leading candidate on the left.

President Donald Trump is 72 and has already committed to running for reelection in 2020.
