A number of attendees at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last week came away from the event with COVID-19, the New York Post reported Sunday.

Christopher Wiggins, a reporter for The Advocate, an LGBTQ magazine, shared his diagnosis in a post on X: "When you spend five days in Chicago for the DNC and come home with COVID-19. Womp womp."

His experience was echoed by others who attended the convention.

Human rights lawyer Yasmine Taeb expressed her frustration, posting on X: "Indeed. I arrived at the DNC healthy and hopeful and left very sick and disillusioned." Attached to Taeb's comment was a picture of a positive COVID-19 test.

Fred Wellman, host of "On Democracy Pod," also took to social media, posting: "Oh man! I brought home so much sweet swag from the DNC! Coffee mugs, stickers, t-shirts, poster, buttons, bags, pins, and…COVID! SWEET!" The post has since been removed.

This convention marked the Democrats' first major in-person gathering since 2016, as the pandemic forced their 2020 convention to go virtual. While some attendees were seen wearing face masks, they were in the minority.
