Secretary of State Marco Rubio won't say whether he's spoken to El Salvador's president about returning Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia.

"Well, I would never tell you that and you know who else I would never tell? A judge," Rubio told a reporter Wednesday during a Cabinet meeting.

"Because the conduct of our foreign policy belongs to the president of the United States and the executive branch, not some judge."

CNN earlier Wednesday reported that Rubio and Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele have been directly in touch about the detention of Abrego Garcia, whom the U.S. mistakenly deported to El Salvador's mega prison.

President Donald Trump in an interview with ABC News Tuesday said he could tell El Salvador to return Abrego Garcia but will not.
