After becoming one of the most high-profile athletes of 2016 for reasons totally unrelated to sports, National Anthem-protesting quarterback Colin Kaepernick is ready to move on from the San Francisco 49ers.

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday Kaepernick’s new agents have informed NFL teams he'll opt out of his contract – giving up a scheduled $14.5 million in base salary in 2017 to become a free agent, according to the Washington Post.

Kaepernick’s controversial take-the-knee protest of racial injustice kept him in the headlines for weeks – and landed him on the cover of Time magazine.

Teams looking for a quarterback figure to include; the Chicago Bears, the Denver Broncos, and the New York Jets, Mediaite reported.
