Former British spy Christopher Steele, who wrote a controversial and unverified anti-Donald Trump dossier, will be questioned by U.S. authorities, The Times of London is reporting.
The newspaper, quoting a source close to Steele, said he has agreed to meet with authorities within weeks. The newspaper did not say exactly who Steele would be interviewed by.
But Fox News noted there are several investigations ongoing in the U.S. related to the origins of the Russia probe and how the dossier was used to obtain surveillance warrants for former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.
Attorney General William Barr has brought in U.S. Attorney John Durham to lead a probe into the origins of the Russia inquiry. In addition, Trump has allowed Barr powers to declassify counterintelligence information.
The move came after Trump's repeated calls to "investigate the investigators."
The Daily Caller reports Steele's decision to meet with authorities is an apparent about-face from his reported refusal to talk to investigators.
