Democrat Andrew Gillum holds a slim lead over former Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., in Florida's gubernatorial race, according to the results of a new poll.

Key figures in the St. Pete Polls survey:

  • 47 percent of likely Florida voters said they would vote for Gillum, the current mayor of Tallahassee, if the election were held on the day they were surveyed.
  • 45.9 percent said they would vote for DeSantis, who recently resigned from Congress as he pursues the governor post.

It is worth noting 39.4 percent of those surveyed were Democrats, 37.1 percent were Republicans, and 23.6 percent were Independents.

The most recent RealClear Politics polling average shows Gillum with a 3-point lead heading into the Nov. 6 election.
