Rosie O'Donnell took to Twitter on Friday to apologize to future first lady Melania Trump for speculating that she and Donald Trump's 10-year-old son, Barron, could be autistic.
The comic — who's had a bitter, long-running feud with the billionaire real-estate mogul who is soon to be the nation's 45th president — tweeted: "I apologize to @MELANIATRUMP - i was insensitive in my RT - i am sorry for the pain i caused - it was not my intent - i am truly sorry."
Then O'Donnell quickly switched her Twitter account to private, meaning only selected people can access it, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
She likely restricted access in a bid to stop a torrent of expected criticism.
O'Donnell sparked a furor when she shared a video of Barron Trump at his father's various campaign appearances, uploaded by a Twitter member named James Hunter.
"Barron Trump Autistic? if so - what an amazing opportunity to bring attention to the AUTISM epidemic," O'Donnell wrote in a tweet she later deleted.
Melania Trump had threatened to sue Hunter, who yanked the video from YouTube and stated: "In the video, I suggested Barron Trump might suffer from autism. That is in fact 100 percent false. It was incredibly irresponsible of me to diagnose Barron Trump using a selection of misleading videos."
At first, O'Donnell defended the speculation, saying her 3-year-old daughter Dakota had been diagnosed as autistic.
She and Donald Trump have been at each other's throats for years. He's called her "a pig" and criticized her weight, while she's referred to him as "an orange anus" — a crude reference to his flame-tinted hair color.
