Between 80 percent and 90 percent of the 6 million Americans enrolled in Obamacare have paid their insurance premiums, says Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
Sebelius talked with News9 of Oklahoma City and confirmed the numbers.
"Insurance companies . . . tell us from their initial customers it’s somewhere between 80, 85, some say it’s as high as 90 percent have paid so far," Sebelius said. "Lots of companies have different timetables for when their new customers have to send their first payment. You are not fully enrolled until you pay your premium."
Sebelius added that people’s insurance will start May 1 if they enroll today, "so people have time to pay their premium."
Sebelius noted that the Obamacare website,
HealthCare.gov, was up and running Monday ahead of Monday night’s deadline to sign up for insurance. The site, however, was plagued with issues early Monday and was unavailable for a time.
