Aly Raisman has got legs, some pretty impressive ones if you ask hockey legend Marcel Dionne, who told those watching the NHL Awards on Wednesday night to “look at her legs” – an awkward, cringe-worthy moment for everyone involved.
The weird exchange came as Raisman, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, and Dionne presented the Lady Byng Trophy at the awards ceremony in Las Vegas, according to For The Win.
Raisman kept a smile on her face, but it’s probably safe to say she was only doing that for the TV cameras, considering what she’s said before about having positive body images.
Raisman showed off her body in ESPN’s 2015 Body Issue – a platform she used to speak against body shaming, according to The Washington Post.
“Instead of being insecure about my muscles, I’ve learned to love them,” she told ESPN The Magazine in 2015. “I don’t even think of it as a flaw anymore because it’s made me into the athlete that I am.”
This also comes weeks after Raisman took to Twitter to share a story about an encounter she had with airport security and how her arms annoyingly became the topic of discussion.
“I work very hard to be healthy and fit,” she tweeted, at the time. “The fact that a man thinks he can judge my arms pisses me off…”
“If you are a man who can’t compliment a girls [arms] you are sexist. Get over yourself,” Raisman wrote in another tweet.
“He was very rude. Staring at me shaking his head like it couldn’t be me because I didn’t look ‘strong enough’ to him?” she tweeted.
Many on Twitter weren’t fans of Dionne’s legs comment.
