President Donald Trump Thursday set the stage for his meeting next week with Chinese President Xi Jinping by tweeting the session "will be a very difficult one" because "we can no longer have massive trade deficits and job losses."
Here are Trump's posts:
China's Foreign Ministry said Thursday the pair will meet at President Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on April 6-7.
The session would come amid such tense issues as trade, North Korea, and territorial disputes in the South China Sea.
Throughout the presidential campaign, Trump has slammed Beijing for unfair trade practices — and he has threatened to raise import taxes on Chinese goods and declare the country a currency manipulator.
However, Trump is seeking Beijing's help in pressuring North Korea over its nuclear weapons and missiles programs.
China is North Korea's most important source of diplomatic support and economic assistance.
