A new report suggests Heath and Human Services Secretary Tom Price was under investigation by former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara before the latter was fired by the Trump administration last week.
According to Pro Publica, Preet Bharara was looking into claims that Price may have violated federal law regarding investments while he was a member of Congress. Bharara, however, one was of several Obama-era U.S. attorneys who were asked to resign last week — a customary practice when a new president takes office.
Bharara posted a tweet on March 11 and said he was fired from his post as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York.
Pro Publica reports that Bharara's office was looking into Price's activity on the stock market when he was let go. Price was asked about his trades during his confirmation hearing, but he said everything he did — which included trading hundreds of thousands of dollars in healthcare-related stocks while he produced healthcare legislation from his seat in Congress — was legal.
Price was sworn into his role as HHS secretary on Feb. 10. He supports the House GOP's piece of legislation to replace Obamacare, the American Health Care Act.
