CIA Director Mike Pompeo is ending a six-year streak of including reporters at the agency’s upscale Christmas party, Politico reported.
The snub was not unexpected; Pompeo has been critical of the news media, and the holiday party’s limited guest list is the director’s decision, Politico reported.
“Frankly, I would have been more surprised if [Pompeo] hadn't ended that tradition," one unnamed former Obama administration official told Politico.
The last documented time reporters were excluded from the party held in the agency’s iconic headquarters lobby appears to be in 2011, when then-director David Petraeus cut back the guest list to save money, Politico reported.
