Vice President-elect Mike Pence declared Sunday that there was no campaign contact between President-elect Donald Trump and Russians attempting to "meddle" in the U.S. election.
In an interview with CBS News' "Face The Nation," Pence slammed media attempts to "essentially demean and question the legitimacy of this incoming administration."
When pressed if any adviser or member of the Trump campaign have contact with Russians trying to "meddle" in the election, Pence replied, "Of course not."
He then castigated news outlets for coverage of unsubstantiated charges of collusion between Moscow and Trump during the campaign, calling the salacious accusations "bizarre rumors."
In the interview, Pence also said Trump's not naive about a relationship with Russia.
" think the president elect also made it clear this week… that while a better relationship with Russia would be a good thing, that I think he is realistic about the possibility of that, and I think when you see the Cabinet that he assembled… we are coming at this with realistic expectations."
