A top Democrat thinks so many elected Republicans support President Donald Trump for one reason: they're afraid of him.
"I think they're tremendously scared of him," Rep. Joseph Crowley of New York told "Newsmakers" on C-SPAN Friday.
"I think they feel one tweet away from a primary, one tweet away from being, you know, dismissed — and given a new nickname, I'm sure."
Trump repeatedly bashed his political opponents on the campaign trail, and now that he's president he tries to discredit the media on an almost daily basis. But he has taken a softer tone toward his fellow Republicans as he tries to work with them.
Crowley, who leads the House Democratic Caucus, said the GOP's public acceptance of Trump stems from one fact: they don't know the best way to handle him.
"There is angst on their side. They, too, do not know how to deal with this man," he said. "When I look at them, when I talk to them … they shrug their shoulders and turn their head."
