Huma Abedin Set for DC Fundraiser

Huma Abedin Set for DC Fundraiser

Hillary Clinton's longtime aide Huma Abedin is still scheduled to attend a campaign fundraiser in Washington, D.C., Thursday — her first public appearance since news broke that a laptop shared by her and her estranged husband Anthony Weiner led to a review of the investigation into Clinton's private email server.

CNN reports that Abedin's name is listed on an invitation sent to donors this week, and that she'll be joined by designer Diane Von Furstenberg and the editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour.

According to a Clinton campaign aide, Abedin has been working from Clinton's campaign headquarters in Brooklyn.

"I wouldn't draw too many conclusions," the aide told CNN about Abedin's absence from the campaign plane.

"She is there in Brooklyn and happy to cooperate if they ever want to talk to her. She has been very cooperative throughout the process," the aide said. "We don't see any reason, though, that they will need to. But, you know, there is a lot to wrap up this last week or two."

Ross Baker, political science professor at Rutgers University, speculated Tuesday that the growing negative press surrounding Abedin could affect Clinton even if she wins the election.

"It would be a distraction were she to be given a prominent position such as chief of staff, forcing the new administration on to the defensive," Baker told The Guardian. "It could derail any attempt to initiate many of the proposals Clinton has talked about."
