Former Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein has filed a lawsuit against Wisconsin for not promising to recount the election results by hand.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Stein wants the recount — which will begin Thursday — done a certain way. If Stein does not win the lawsuit, officials will recount the ballots any way they choose.
The recount will start Thursday, but only if Stein or another candidate backing the effort pays the $3.5 million it will cost.
Stein, the Chicago Tribune reported, wants to force Wisconsin to hand count the roughly 3 million votes cast in the Nov. 8 election. More than 30 of the state's 72 counties have vowed to check the results the old fashioned way. The others will likely use a mix of hand and machine counting.
Stein is also seeking recounts in Michigan and Pennsylvania.
The Tribune reported the last statewide recount in Wisconsin was after a 2011 state Supreme Court election.
