Sen. Ben Sasse on Wednesday quickly trashed President Donald Trump's deal with Democratic congressional leaders that will raise the debt ceiling and fund the government through Dec. 15.

The agreement, reached at a White House meeting between both Democratic and GOP congressional leaders would attach both measures to a House bill aiding communities hit by Hurricane Harvey.

Republicans had pressed for a longer debt extension, and conservative groups criticized the deal for handing Democrats more power over a spending bill at the end of the year.

In a tweet, the Nebraska Republican declared: "The Pelosi-Schumer-Trump deal is bad," calling out Rep. Nancy Pelois and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer.

He was not alone. House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., called the bill "disgraceful" and "ridiculous."

"We've got all this devastation in Texas; we've got another unprecedented hurricane about to hit Florida. And they want to play politics with the debt ceiling?" Ryan said a news conference.

"I think that's ridiculous and disgraceful that they want to play politics with the debt ceiling at this moment when we have fellow citizens in need, [so we can] respond to these hurricanes so that we don't strand them."
