Donald Trump Jr., busy with taking over his father's business enterprises and detached from politics since Election Day, said Saturday night he has had "zero contact" with President Donald Trump, The Washington Post reported.
"I basically have zero contact with him at this point," Trump Jr. said in a speech to a GOP fundraiser in Dallas, NBC News reported.
President Trump has been roundly criticized for refusing to completely divest from his business interests, instead leaving the Trump Organization in the hands of his oldest sons Donald Jr. and Eric Trump.
"I thought I was out of politics after Election Day and [would] get back to my regular life and my family," Trump Jr. said, per NBC. "But I couldn't."
The Trump Organization had not responded to an email request for clarification Sunday on the "basically . . . zero contact" statement and whether Trump Jr. has been removed from politics, according to the Post.
This week, three watchdog groups asked U.S. attorney Preet Bharara to investigate President Trump on whether he violated the Constitution's "emoluments clause," whether he has received payments or benefits from foreign countries through his business interests, the Post reported.
Bharara and 45 other U.S. attorneys left over from former President Barack Obama's administration were then asked later this week to resign, and when Bharara refused, he was fired.
Baharara tweeted Sunday, suggesting his firing might have come amid an investigation.
