Hillary Clinton criticized North Carolina's Republican governor over the state's "bathroom bill" during a campaign stop in Raleigh on Tuesday.
"Right here in North Carolina, the very mean-spirited, wrong-headed decision by your legislature and governor to pass and sign House Bill 2 has hurt this state," Clinton told a crowd at Wake Technical Community College.
"But more than that, it's hurt people. It has sent a message to so many people that, well, you know, you're really not wanted. You're really not part of us.
"My American dream is big enough for everybody."
House Bill 2 was passed in the spring and requires transgender people to use public bathrooms and locker rooms that match the gender they were born with. The law set off a firestorm of criticism, which has resulted in companies, musicians, and even sports tournaments deciding not do do business in or visit the state.
