Conservative groups are backing the House Freedom Caucus and blasting President Donald Trump and Republican leaders, The Washington Post is reporting.
The Freedom Caucus, which helped block the GOP healthcare bill, was singled out for presidential slams on Thursday.
"The House Freedom Caucus, for the past several weeks, have been the grown-ups in the room," said Michael Needham, chief executive of Heritage Action for America.
Brent Bozell, chairman of ForAmerican added: "Paul Ryan and the leadership in the Senate will own Obamacare after this."
Bozell said it made little sense for Trump to attack the Freedom Caucus.
"They'll be the ones front and center taking the arrows for him, so it's very, very shortsighted to be attacking them."
And the Washington Examiner noted the conservative groups blamed the healthcare bill problems on opposition from moderates, who did not want to repeal Obamacare.
"The question isn't why the Freedom Caucus is being so hard-nosed, they are the ones actually keeping their promise," said Andy Ross, vice president of the Club for Growth.
"The people breaking their campaign pledges to the American people are the moderates who are holding this up."
