Kerik: Obama's Claim Hillary's Email an 'Honest Mistake' Comical

Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik ridiculed President Barack Obama's defense of Hillary Clinton's "honest mistake" of using her private email server during her stint as secretary of state.

Kerick, author of "Jailer to Jailed," found the defense "completely comical," he told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth on Wednesday.

"There's a bunch of people sitting in prison today," he said. "Hundreds, thousands of them that made mistakes, good people, decent people that made mistakes not 1,000th of a percent of what she has."

"There's people sitting in prison today, and she hasn't been touched," he added. "It's appalling to somebody like me. Anybody that's been in my position to watch this thing unfold is appalling and it's outrageous."

The FBI announced Friday it had found new emails that might pertain to Clinton's use of a private server, and reopened an investigation that last July concluded with no recommendation for criminal charges.

Kerik lauded FBI Director James Comey's decision.

"I know a lot of guys were disappointed with the way Director Comey handled this event back in July, but I have to tell you, I don't think he had a choice in making this notification to Congress," he said of Comey's announcement to lawmakers the case is being examined once again in light of the newly uncovered emails.

"By Sunday, they actually had a warrant for this device, for this laptop that supposedly has 650,000 emails in it," he added. " If they got that warrant on Sunday, and he had not notified Congress that they were backed up in looking into this, he would've been crucified."

He added if top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin is telling the truth – that she didn't put the emails onto the device – then "there's a much bigger issue here than anybody's looking at, because this is a major national security breach."

The device containing the emails reportedly belongs to Abedin's estranged husband, Anthony Weiner, who is under investigation for sexting an underage teenage girl.
