The gun, badge, radio, handcuffs and flash drive of a Secret Service agent were stolen from his personal vehicle in broad daylight Monday near the agency's headquarters in Washington, according to a police report.
The agent's vehicle was parked on G Place in downtown Washington around 4 p.m. Eastern time,
CNN reports.
A report filed with the Washington Metropolitan Police Department hours later said that the agent returned to his car to find that the back rear window of his car had been "unzipped," according to CNN.
The report said that agent, whose name was not listed in the document, then noticed "a bag with the listed property was taken out of the vehicle."
A source told CNN that the agent worked in the Presidential Protective Division.
The missing items listed as stolen on the police report included a black Sig Sauer handgun, an APX6000 radio, handcuffs, a USB flash drive, a black Patagonia bag and a Secret Service badge — No. 1266.
The agent also saw someone reaching into the vehicle, "but didn't see him take anything out," according to the police report.
The Secret Service declined Tuesday to comment on the incident.
A law-enforcement official told CNN that the USB was encrypted and password protected, arguing that the theft did not appear to be threatening to the Secret Service.
The contents of the stolen flash drive were not known, CNN reports.
