Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus does not think Donald Trump will run as an independent should he not win the 2016 GOP presidential nomination.
"I don't think he's going to do that," Priebus told Greta Van Susteren Friday on Fox News. "I think he knows that if you're going to beat Hillary Clinton — if Hillary Clinton is going to get beat, there's only one party that's going to beat her: It's the Republican Party."
The interview was reported by The Hill.
Earlier Friday, Trump reiterated his desire to remain on the GOP ticket.
"I want to run as a Republican. I think I'll get the nomination," he told MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
Priebus criticized Trump last week for his attacks on the war record of Arizona Sen. John McCain.
"Any one of the 16 candidates on our side know that the only individual that is going to beat Hillary Clinton is going to be a Republican if she's going to get beat, if she's going to be beat. Period," Priebus told Van Susteren. "And everyone in America knows that's true."
