William Kristol has suggested that Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki may use his meeting with President Barack Obama this morning to hand in his notice.
Shinseki has been under growing pressure to resign following reports of
widespread abuses in veterans hospitals across the country stemming from secret waiting lists to conceal true wait times, leading to at least dozens of deaths.
"I gather Eric Shinseki, the head of the VA, is meeting with President Obama in the Oval Office at 10 o'clock this morning. They just announced that about half an hour ago," Kristol said on Wednesday's "Morning Joe" on MSNBC.

"I've got to wonder whether he isn't resigning. I mean, he's a man of some dignity and this is not the right thing for him to just hang on for the sake of hanging on. He can say he did his best, but the system overwhelmed him," he said. "It's not good for him, it's not good for the veterans, it's not good for the country, honestly, to have the spectacle of a decent man--what's the point of his hanging on? Can he reform it any better than the new person? No, I don't think so."
Host Joe Scarborough added, "And Bill, this is an unnecessary scandal for the Obama administration as he's been in power for six years. ... Forget about policy, they are so horrible at crisis management six years in, I don't get it."
