Suzanne Somers says she received a false diagnosis that the breast cancer she had beaten more than a decade ago had returned in 2009.
The “Three’s Company” star was diagnosed in 2001, but was declared cancer-free after undergoing surgery and radiation she adopted a healthy lifestyle — eating organic food, exercising regularly, and taking hormone replacement —
AOL.com reports.
But then, six years ago, doctors said her cancer had come back and spread to other parts of her body — news that was frightening, but eventually proved false.
"I ended up in the hospital for six days with a misdiagnosis of cancer," Somers, 68, told
ET. "When they read the CAT scan they said, 'You have cancer everywhere. You have a mass on your lung and it's covering your whole liver, and you have so many masses in your chest we can't count them, and they're all tumors, and you have a blood clot, and you have pneumonia.'"
She says she also been breathing in black mold hidden in a house that she and her husband Alan Hamel were renting.
Somers, who recently competed on “Dancing With the Stars,” told
ET her experiences drive her passion for health advocacy. Her latest book, “Toxic: From Toxic to Not Sick,” offers many prescriptions for healthy living.
