Dr. Richard Horton, editor-in-chief of the prestigious medical journal The Lancet, wrote a commentary in the April 11, 2015 issue where he laid out the claim that “perhaps half” of what is published in medical journals may be untrue.
“Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness,” he wrote. “Our love of ‘significance’ pollutes the literature with many a statistical fairy tale.”
Dr. Marcia Angell, who was the editor of the New England Journal of Medicine for 20 years, stated, “It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of the NEJM.”
Medical schools teach students how to diagnose pathologies. Once the diagnosis is made, the students are taught how to prescribe a drug (or a few drugs) to treat the diagnosis.
The problem with this model is that nearly all commonly used drugs do not treat the underlying cause of an illness; they simply treat the symptoms of an illness. And nearly all drugs are associated with adverse effects because they poison enzymes and block receptors.
As I have stated over and over, we were not designed to take medications that poison enzymes and block receptors for the long-term.
We spend 20 percent of our gross national product on healthcare — far more than any other Western country. Yet we finish last on nearly every health indicator, including infant mortality and life span.
Our reliance on drugs that poison enzymes and block receptors must end. It’s up to patients to seek better treatment methods, because doctors simply don’t know any better.
And the AMA, the medical schools, and most other medical organizations have been bought by Big Pharma.
