GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz got testy with
"Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace, accusing him of hitting him with Donald Trump talking points while going easy on Trump himself.
The interview was friendly enough until the last question, where Wallace listed off a series of what critics have called dirty tricks by Cruz's campaign, including telling Iowa caucus-goers Ben Carson had dropped out of the race and his now-fired communications director accusing Marco Rubio of insulting the Bible.
"Chris, every accusation you raised there is incorrect," Cruz said. "I appreciate your reading the Donald Trump attack file on that."
"Come on, sir. Wait a minute. Wait a minute, sir," Wallace interjected. "You personally apologized to Ben Carson on a debate stage. You fired your communications director. Don't say this is an [opposition research] file on our part, sir."
"Chris, please don't interrupt me," Cruz said.
"Please don't accuse me of something I didn't do," Wallace shot back.
"Go ahead, Chris," an angry Cruz said. "Let me know whether I'm allowed to answer."
"Well, don't accuse me of something I didn't do," Wallace said.
Cruz insisted his campaign "from the beginning has the highest level of integrity when others engaged in personal attacks and insults."
He accused Wallace of giving Trump an easy interview earlier in the show, but Wallace disputed that. Trump was almost as testy as Cruz in that interview as Wallace asked him about releasing his taxes and his Trump University lawsuit.
With time expired on the Cruz interview, Wallace thanked the Texas senator, but waited through three seconds of silence with no response before moving on.
