Admiral Bruce Loveless Corruption Charge Ties 9 More to 'Fat Leonard' Bribery Case

Navy Admiral Bruce Loveless and eight others have been charged with corruption in a federal indictment connecting them to the widening “Fat Leonard” bribery case.

According to the indictment, over the course of eight years "defendants" took bribes from Leonard Glenn Francis, a defense contractor with Glenn Defense Marine Asia, reported Fox News. The bribes included gifts, prostitutes, and luxury hotel stays.

The indictment says Francis would often host sex parties for officials on Navy warships.

The Fox News report said that in 2007 it’s alleged that Francis hosted a sex party at the MacArthur Suite of the Shangri-La Hotel.

“Historical memorabilia related to General Douglas MacArthur were used by the participants in sexual acts” at Francis’ party, Fox News noted.

“The defendants in this indictment were entrusted with the honor and responsibility of administering the operations of the U.S. Navy’s Seventh Fleet, which is tasked with protecting our nation by guarding an area of responsibility that spanned from Russia to Southeast Asia and the India Ocean,” Acting Assistant Attorney General Blanco said in a statement.

“With this honor and awesome responsibility came a duty to make decisions based on the best interests of the Navy and the 40,000 Sailors and Marines under their care who put their lives at risk every day to keep us secure and free,” Blanco added. “Unfortunately, however, these defendants are alleged to have sold their honor and responsibility in exchange for personal enrichment.”

Loveless was arrested at his San Diego area home on Tuesday.

He and the other eight charged now join 19 people who are also suspected of having some involvement in the bribery case, according to United Press International.

Thirteen officials have entered guilty pleas to charges in the case so far, 10 of them naval officers.

Other charges in the case include conspiracy and obstructing justice.

Francis pleaded guilty to fraud chargers in 2015, but has not been sentenced.
