Crossroads GPS, the conservative advocacy group connected to Republican strategist Karl Rove, is putting $100,000 towards an ad campaign touting immigration reform, according to
a news release issued Monday.
The ad will appear in Roll Call, The Hill, Politico, and The Wall Street Journal's Washington, D.C., edition, all aimed at targeting members of Congress, where immigration reform bills are under consideration. The ad carries the signatures of more than 50 Republican politicians, conservative economists, and business leaders.
In addition to Rove and former Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie, signers include former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman, former Texas Sen. Phil Gramm, former Puerto Rico Gov. Luis Fortuño, and former Texas Rep. Francisco Canseco.
The ad calls the bipartisan Senate immigration-reform bill an "important starting point toward rebuilding America's dysfunctional, porous immigration system." But it also says the measure "needs an 'extreme makeover' to deal more forcefully with border-security problems and to provide job protections for American workers.
"This isn't just about politics. It's about taking responsibility for solving a critical national problem," Crossroads GPS CEO Steven Law said in the news release.
"If we lose this opportunity to pass meaningful immigration reform, we will give President Obama an opening to shift immigration policy further to the left by executive fiat," he added.
