The base of the left is beginning to feel the same frustration with Democratic leaders — and in particular, Barack Obama — that conservatives have long felt dealing with the GOP.

Since I left Texas to fight for the conservative movement in 1961, my conservative friends and I have always had to battle against the elites and the ruling class. From being used by Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, to being ignored by George H.W. Bush, and most recently betrayed then derided by George W. Bush, we have had our share of grief.

Each time we complained about a Republican president abandoning conservative positions, we heard that phrase that angers conservatives as much as, if not more than, any other: “You have no place else to go.”

Last night, President Obama announced that he reached a deal to extend existing personal income tax rates over the cries and moans of leftist progressives, whose accusations of Obama’s weakness and betrayal have been mounting in volume over the past few weeks. They say that the most left-wing president in the United States’ history has “lost his mojo” and has abandoned so-called progressive “principles.”

Katrina vanden Heuvel, editor and publisher of The Nation, writes in The Washington Post: “Ronald Reagan famously quipped that the Democratic Party left him before he left the party. Like many progressive supporters of Barack Obama, I'm beginning to have the same feeling about this president.”

President Obama, who advanced the most radical left-wing agenda in the shortest period of time, set records for fiscal abuse, voraciously eroded what was left of free markets and individual freedom, and will go down as the most left-wing president in history, isn’t enough to satisfy his real base.

Well, I have been waiting to say this for over 40 year to leftists, liberals, and progressives: You have no place else to go!

The left-wing base and their allies in the media built and nurtured a president they saw as their messiah, and when it turned out, quite predictably, that he was not the savior they were looking for, it was already too late.

Unless they plan on supporting the GOP, Paul Krugman, Arianna Huffington, and their friends had better buckle in for the long haul — they have nowhere else to go.
