HUD Dismisses Christian Roommate Case

Common sense tells you there’s nothing wrong with looking for a roommate who shares your religion. But when Tricia Rowe, a 31-year-old nursing student in Algier Heights, Mich., placed a notice on her church bulletin board stating, "I am looking for a Christian roommate," she got in trouble. The Fair Housing Center of West Michigan claimed the ad prevented people of "other faiths" from contacting Rowe in an effort to be her roommate.

But the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development dismissed the allegation, Chalcedon, a Christian educational organization reports.

Even HUD and the Michigan Department of Civil Rights can't unravel the mystery of how the case arose in the first place, Chalcedon reports. “Only the Fair Housing Center knows that, and they're not talking.”
