Housing Center of West Michigan claimed the ad prevented people of "other faiths" from contacting Rowe in an effort to be her roommate.
But the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development dismissed the allegation,

Even HUD and the Michigan Department of Civil Rights can't unravel the mystery of how the case arose in the first place, Chalcedon reports. “Only the Fair Housing Center knows that, and they're not talking.”
