Bristol Palin and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino have set aside any competitive inclinations they picked up as rivals on ABC-TV’s “Dancing With the Stars” to cooperate on a playful video urging sexual abstinence. In an unlikely combo lighting up the blogosphere from the Jersey shore to Sarah Palin’s Alaska, Bristol promotes the abstinence stance she now takes as a single mom, while, failing that, The Situation tosses in a pitch for safe sex in The Candie’s Foundation promotion.

The video, which debuted Tuesday, coincidentally the same day Bristol advanced to the finals of DWTS (Sorrentino was bounced from the show in Week Four), features her telling “The Sitch” that abstinence is the surest way to avoid a “situation.”

Ever the gentleman, The Situation applauds her pro-abstinence position, even acknowledging he likes abstinence because it includes the word “abs,” his stock and trade on his own MTV show. But, he notes, "Just in case you get into a situation, I just want to make sure you are situated. Because if you do get into a situation with your situation, you may end up with a situation. And you may not like that situation."

Bristol acknowledges that she’s been in that situation before, but she plans to avoid another. And, Bristol the Pistol, as her mom calls her, indicates that The Situation should keep it in the holster, too.

That prompts Sorrentino to show a variety of condoms, in a segue to the video’s safe-sex message.

Although some bloggers are dissing the video, mostly with an air of adult superiority, they just might give The Candie’s Foundation credit for using trendy personalities to promote its message of responsible sex and parenting. Judge for yourself:
