John Glenn's 50th Anniversary of Orbit
Monday marks the 50th anniversary of John Glenn’s enduring spaceflight. On February 20, 1962, Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth aboard the Friendship 7. Later, Glenn became the oldest person to fly in space at the age of 77 aboard the shuttle Discovery in 1998. A U.S. senator for four terms and one-time presidential candidate, Glenn’s name still resonates with Americans everywhere. In honor of the anniversary, we take a look back at Glenn throughout the years.
