President's day honors George Washington, also know as "The Father of Our Country." The federal holiday was first implemented in 1880 by Congress for government offices in D.C. It was the first federal holiday to honor an American citizen and was originally celebrated on Washington’s actual birthday; February 22nd. It is now celebrated on the third Monday in February.
