Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum’s surge is now being felt in California. Santorum now trails former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney by just six points, a new Field Poll shows.

Santorum had previously polled in California at 1 percent and 2 percent. However, he now polls at 25 percent among GOP voters in the Golden State.

Romney is preferred by 31 percent. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s fortunes have declined almost as much as Santorum’s has risen.

Gingrich had the support of 23 percent of Republican voters in November and now stands at just 12 percent. Gingrich is now in third place behind Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 16 percent.
