President Barack Obama’s job approval rating fell to its lowest level over the weekend in the Gallup three-day average since his November re-election.

The Gallup poll of 1,500 adults found Obama’s approval rating at 46 percent between Feb. 29 and March 2, down from 53 percent the previous week.

The plunge came as Obama and Congress failed to reach an agreement to avert $85 billion in cross-government cuts under the sequester that took effect on Friday.

On the other side, Obama’s disapproval rating jumped to its highest level since November in the Gallup poll, reaching 46 percent over the weekend, up from 40 percent a week earlier.
