A lot is being made about what the results of next Tuesday’s congressional elections mean for policy. But MSNBC commentator Joe Scarborough, a former Republican congressman from Florida, says it really doesn’t matter. That’s because the real issue is the nation’s exploding debt, and neither party will do much about it, he writes on Politico
“Does anyone really believe that our nation's survival depends on whether Harry Reid or Mitch McConnell runs an evenly divided Senate over the next two years?” Scarborough says.
“And does anyone outside the media echo chamber really believe that America's future will be inexorably altered if Boehner becomes speaker instead of Pelosi? While the ideologues and party hacks in the talk news world work themselves into a lather between now and Election Day, the rest of us should focus instead on the facts. It's pretty simple. America is in debt. Our entitlement programs are going under. Our economy is crippled. And both parties are to blame.”
