Texas Gov. Rick Perry says the GOP "elite" should not try to "annoint"  a nominee.

“That’s not the way America works,” the former GOP presidential candidate said in an interview on Fox News, reports the Houston Chronicle.

Perry said that Super Tuesday “wasn’t a super night for anyone," and that Mitt Romney is not showing he's "able to close the sale," especially in the South.

No candidate "brings everything,” he conceded. Perry endorsed Gingrich for the GOP nomination. He said Gingrich’s pro-drilling energy policy will play well in  Alabama, Louisiana and Texas which have contests coming up.

“I think his path to victory is still there,” Perry said.
