Oil Spill Blame Continues to Slosh Over White House

Tuesday, 25 May 2010 11:00 AM EDT

As the uncontrolled gushing of oil into the Gulf of Mexico nears its fifth week, increasing swells of anger are sloshing over the White House, especially from those most affected.

"I'm angry and the people back in my state are very angry," the New Orleans Times-Picayune quoted Republican Rep. Steve Scalise as saying during a tongue-lashing on the House floor Monday after visiting his home state of Louisiana.

Scalise brandished a photo of a dead pelican and a copy of the Oil Pollution Act, which he quoted as mandating the president to "ensure the effective and immediate removal of discharge," the Times-Picayune reported.

Instead of removing the spewing pollution, he charged, President Obama, whom he dubbed "the finger-pointer in chief," had been "ceding power to BP."
