Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has the desire, knowledge and ability to “fix” America, while Mitt Romney’s nomination could be disastrous for the GOP, according to the Rev. Donald E. Wildmon, who is urging Christian voters to choose Gingrich.
““I’m supporting him — and have been and will be,” Wildmon tells Newsmax in an exclusive interview just days before the Florida primary. “He’s the only person that has the necessary knowledge to know what’s wrong and how to fix it — and the desire to fix it.”
Founder of the American Family Association, Wildmon is one of the nation's most respected Christian leaders and has been at the forefront for decades in fighting for traditional values against a rising tide of secularism.
“I think Mr. Gingrich has been there long enough — knows the ropes, knows how the game is played — and will help get us off this track of being headed for destruction,” said Wildmon. “If we lose this race — If Mr. Obama gets a second term, or if Mr. Romney gets in — it’s the end of Western civilization as we know it.”
Wildmon, who has talked personally with Gingrich and believes his faith in Christ is real and sincere, said that Romney has never impressed him as someone who can put the United States back on course.
“He’s never impressed me. He knows how to make money but the job that he’s seeking is not a money-making job. It’s a caretaker job,” insists Wildmon, adding that he is encouraged by Gingrich’s recent come-from-behind victory in South Carolina.
“It looks a whole lot better than it did a month ago —even two weeks ago,” Wildmon explained, describing this as the “most critical” election in American history.
“This is not just another election,” adds Wildmon. “This is a vote on the future of Western civilization. That’s why I’m in it —for my children, and great, great grandchildren.”
