Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele defended former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s controversial assessment President Barack Obama was motivated by “anti-colonial” views of his father. The statements made last Saturday have been much debated and many have criticized them as downright bizarre considering that Obama met his father only once. But Steele said Wednesday that Gingrich’s comments had nothing to do with race as some have alleged,
CNN reported.

"I know probably some folks out there want to, but I don't see that," Steele said. "I know Newt. I know that's not his mindset on that. He's talking about a world view that comes from a different part, whether it's Europe, the African continent."
