President Barack Obama's policies are propelling the nation toward "hard-core socialism or worse," best-selling author Robert J. Ringer warns, adding that the "real terrorists" threatening the nation are progressives in Congress who are "subverting the Constitution."
In an exclusive Newsmax.TV interview, Ringer talked about his new book, “Restoring the American Dream: The Defining Voice in the Movement of Liberty.”
It's an updated version, co-authored with The Wall Street Journal's Stephen Moore, of a 1979 book titled “Restoring the American Dream” — a work that introduced many Americans to libertarian ideas.

Ringer says the new edition reflects his own evolution toward a more pragmatic interpretation of libertarianism.
"You cannot stick to absolute libertarianism, where each person governs himself, because there are too many people who want to commit aggression against you and violate your natural rights," he said.
Ringer, who now calls himself a "theoretical libertarian and practical conservative," says, "The single greatest aggressor on human rights is the United States government, and that's what the tea party movement is all about today."
The author, who also wrote the best-sellers “Winning Through Intimidation” and “Looking Out For Number One,” told Newsmax that the United States is "spinning out of control rapidly" because politicians have created rights that don't really exist.
"Barack Obama didn't invent this," Ringer says. "But giving him due credit, he did understand Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals. And when things started going in the wrong direction, and he realized people were starting to turn against him, he followed Alinsky's advice and put his foot down on the accelerator and put it all the way to the floor.
"And between now and the elections, and after the elections in November, you can be sure they're going to try to get as much of this socialist legislation passed as possible," Ringer warned.
As Ringer sees it, the real enemy of democracy isn't terrorists, but rather the progressive politicians in both parties.
"They basically want to ignore the Constitution," he said. "They see it as a living document that changes with time. You don't change fundamental principles. Those are the real terrorists — the people in Washington who are subverting the Constitution and aggressing against the everyday rights of people in the United States."
He also advances the controversial notion that promoting diversity is ultimately bad for American society.
"All you need to do is look at the news every day," he said. "Everywhere there's diversity in thinking and culture, you find trouble. One of the great lies being told, and has been told for decades, is that diversity is our strength.
"Since the United States has become so diverse in people living different kinds of life, the United States has become weaker and weaker, and we're really decaying from within is the problem," he said.
