Mike Reagan: Dad Would Have Backed Newt's Immigration Stance

Thursday, 24 November 2011 07:31 PM EST

Radio talk show host and best-selling author Michael Reagan told Fox News this week that his father, former President Ronald Reagan, would back former House Speaker Newt Gingrich's call for a humane policy for the estimated 12 million illegals living in the United States.

Gingrich, who has stressed that his plan is not an amnesty and would not result in citizenship for people who have lived in this country for decades, has been criticized by other GOP presidential contenders.

"He would've supported probably the Newt Gingrich position on immigration. My father never would have broken up a family to try and make, in fact, a point on immigration. And so he would have applauded Newt Gingrich on that."
