Israel ultimately will have to attack Iran to prevent it from developing nuclear weapons, says Richard Perle, a key architect of President Ronald Reagan’s strategy to end the Cold War.

“Time is running out on [halting] Iran’s nuclear program, though I believe they’ve been dealt a severe setback by the clever insertion of a worm [computer virus] in their control systems,” Perle, now a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, tells Newsmax.TV.

He expects more action of that sort from Israel. “We’re not getting anywhere with the Obama administration approach of engagement,” Perle says.

If the choice is between acting and Iran becoming a nuclear weaponsstate, Israel will act, says former Defense Department official RichardPerle. A computer worm has dealt Iran's nuclear program a 'pretty severesetback,' he says.

“At every turn, we’re rebuffed and humiliated, which is one reason why our friends in the gulf are so nervous. I believe Israel will wait until the last minute, because you always do on matters of this consequence. But when it comes to the choice of acting now or watching Iran become a nuclear weapons state, I think Israel will act.”
