Republican Reps. Mike Pence and Greg Walden are spearheading an effort to ensure that the Fairness Doctrine is never revived. Pence, of mike, pence, fairness, actIndiana, and Walden, of Oregon, have reintroduced proposed legislation that would prohibit the Federal Communications Commission from requiring that broadcasters give free airtime to opposing sides on controversial issues, according to Fox News.

"The American people cherish freedom, especially freedom of speech and of the press," said Pence. "Bringing back the Fairness Doctrine would amount to government control over political views expressed on the public airways. We must pass the Broadcaster Freedom Act and bury the Fairness Doctrine once and for all."

The bill, called the Broadcaster Freedom Act, was first introduced in the last session of Congress. The Fairness Doctrine received renewed attention after Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., was shot.
