In the debate over food, potential Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee chooses first lady Michelle Obama over his possible 2012 opponent Sarah Palin. The former governor of Arkansas says the former Alaska governor was wrong to mock the first lady’s fight mike, huckabee, food, obesity, sarah, palinagainst childhood obesity in the most recent episode of “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” Politico reports.

“With all due respect to my colleague and friend Sarah Palin, I think she's misunderstood what Michelle Obama is trying to do,” Huckabee said on the “Curtis Sliwa Show.”

Michelle Obama backs several moves to encourage children to exercise and eat well. Palin has called the first lady’s efforts an overstep by the federal government. On her show that aired Sunday, Palin dedicated her family’s s’mores to the first lady. "This is in honor of Michelle Obama, who said the other day we should not have dessert,” Palin said.

Huckabee shed more than 100 pounds after a 2003 health scare and has made public pleas for healthy eating and exercise since then.

“Michelle Obama's not trying to tell people what to eat or not trying to force the government's desires on people,” he says. “She’s stating the obvious, that we do have an obesity problem in this country. The first lady's campaign is on target.”
