McCain Gives $1 Million to GOP Candidates

No one can accuse Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. of turning his back on his party. The senator told his GOP colleagues Wednesday that he is donating $1 million of his personal campaign money to the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Roll Call reports.

mccain,contribution,million,senate,gop,midtermsRepublican senators are often reluctant to give up their campaign cash for the party cause, worried that they’ll need it for themselves. But McCain wasn’t afraid to take the risk. He looks like a slam dunk for re-election Nov. 2.

“It’s very encouraging to see Sen. McCain step up and do this,” NRSC Chairman John Cornyn said. “Republicans have historically not done this like Democrats have, and that has been a real competitive advantage that they have had.”
